Is there something like the sound of a
city?
What then could be the sound in a flourishing city such as Naples? And has
this sound changed over the centuries?
Our City Portrait traces the
music of early neapolitan composers such as the brothers de Caserta and explores
all the subtilties of the late 14th century style. It then continues in the rich and
varied tradition alive in the era of the Spanish Viceroy in Naples. Here, virtuoso
ornamentation is combined with the more popular and witty villanelle, dances
and the eccentric music of Gesualdo.
This programme provides a variety of compositions, and with its colourful approach
ensemble diferencias
conveys the changing sounds of Naples.
